Local attractions
Alton abbey – Alton. An Anglican Benedictine Abbey set in the pretty village of Beech, just outside Alton. Described in The Times as, ‘the best kept secret in the Church of England’.
Birdworld – Farnham. Is one of England’s largest bird parks, covering over 26 acres. Over about 150 different species of birds can be seen some of these species are on the endangered list. Other animals to be seen include Crocodiles and Grey Herons. There is also a Jenny Wren Farm which is a children’s petting zoo.
Butser Farm - near Petersfield. A recreation of an ancient, working farm with Iron Age farmhouse, granary, forge and enclosures + a selection of traditional farm animals kept during this period.
Curtis Museum - Alton. One of the finest local history collections in Hampshire, from prehistoric tools to the local history of hops and brewing + the Gallery of Childhood
Gilbert White House & The Oates Museum - Selborne. Charming 18th century house and lovely garden, home of naturalist Reverend Gilbert White. The museum celebrates the lives and adventures of Captain Lawrence Oates and his uncle, Frank.
Jane Austin House – Chawton. This delightful house is maintained in the style of when Jane Austen lived there, having many mementoes recording her life and literary works. There is also a learning centre on site.
Watercress line -Stations at Alresford, Ropley, Medstead and Alton. The Watercress Line runs through ten miles of scenic countryside between Alton and Alresford where there is a tea room in keeping with the period of steam trains.
Selborne Pottery – Selborne. An exciting range of hand-thrown and decorated domestic stoneware in rich reds, blues and gold.
Winchester Cathedral – It is one of the largest Cathedrals in England. It has the longest nave and greatest overall length of any Gothic cathedral in Europe.

Walks (for you and your dog)
There are a number of pleasant places to walk in the area, including ones on our doorstep. Below are a few.
The Zig Zag - Selborne. A well-known, steep route, cut through Selborne Hangar by Gilbert White. Accessed from the village (car park at the back of the Selborne Arms pub).
Old Winchester Hill - near Warnford. A National Nature Reserve with an Iron Age hill fort. Stunning views across the Meon Valley and South Downs Way.
Queen Elizabeth Country Park - near Petersfield. Hampshire’s biggest country park in the Buster Hill National Nature Reserve. 20 miles of trails. Picnic and BBQ areas are set out amongst the trees and there is an excellent shop and tea rooms.
Alice Holt Forest - near Farnham. Forestry Commission ancient woodland famous for its oaks. Forest trails, cycle hire, play facilities, gift shop and more.
